2022 March/April Sumi-e on Tuesday: The Grass Orchid Path
Time: Tuesday 3:00 PM CT- 5:00 PM CT
Dates: March 29, April 5, 12 & 19
The emphasis is on the process! The Class will review the foundations of Sumi-e.
- Introduction to an appreciation of Chinese/Japanese calligraphy and painting
- “Four Treasures” (The ink stick, the ink stone, brush and paper) , the equipment and supplies
- Basic exercise on painting The Plum Blossom Trunks, Branches, petals and the basic composition of a Plum Blossom painting.
- Each class begins with a Zen lesson followed by breath and hand exercises.
- Demonstration of the “Vocabulary of strokes” followed by step-by-step guided instruction on how to paint “The Four Nobles (Gentlemen): The Plum Blossom Path”
- Int & Adv. will focus on Trunks, Branches, petals and composing paintings using Paper from The Advanced Paper Roll. Advanced Students will be provided individualized guidance, work at their own pace discovering “idea” paintings and advanced techniques. August 2021 Sumi-e on Sunday New Class Schedule
Sumi-e on Sunday: Ten Verses on Ox-herding, a Zen parable on enlightenment. To celebrate The Year of the Ox, we continue the 2021 Sumi-e on Sunday Series learning the vocabulary of strokes while creating Ten paintings to accompany the Ten Verses on Ox-herding, a Zen parable on enlightenment.
There will be five classes where we will start with stroke techniques, then apply them to two paintings which can be completed during class.
All levels are welcome, plan to let go, have fun while learning a few new stoke techniques and create your own interpretation of the ten verses.
December 2020 Genshin-kai Nihon Shodo Exam:
Qualified for 8th Dan under the teachings of master calligrapher Hekiun Oda: An artist of many talents, here is one of @plarkingreen ‘s examples for her Shodo 8th degree (八段) examination. Not only did she pass, but this piece was recognized as one the best submissions in the organizational monthly publication.
