The Year of the Rooster officially starts the first day of the new lunar year, which follows the phases of the moon. This year is Saturday, January 28th! As the year of the Monkey comes to an end and the Rooster begins – we are proud to host a series of special events for the day!

Voices of Hiroshima: An Afternoon of Survivor Testimony with live Poetry
This event will include words from Mr. Clifton Truman Daniel, President Truman’s
grandson and peace advocate, testimony by atomic bomb survivor Mr. Takashi Teramoto,
and poetry recitals. Live ensō painting and poetry reading by Patricia Larkin Green.

As a symbol of peace, a paper crane
folded by Obama is presented in the
exhibition, with the message he wrote in
Hiroshima: “We have known the agony
of war. Let us now find the courage,
together, to spread peace, and pursue
a world without nuclear weapons.”
Sadako Sasaki, a survivor of the U.S.
strike on Hiroshima, folded nearly 1,000
cranes as a traditional prayer for healing
before she died of leukemia 10 years after
the bomb strike. She was 12 years old.
