2018 is Lunar Year of the Dog, but what about the Cat? In Lunar New Year mythology, the cat fell asleep before the banquet where the animals were assigned their years – and was left out!
We aren’t leaving any animals out of this fun workshop that will introduce you to Sumi-e/Japanese ink painting!Learn techniques for ink painting animals while bringing life to your brushstrokes. Create in a playful environment. No experience necessary. If you’ve painted sumi-e before-you will learn some new techniques. Bring a photo of your pet and learn how to paint it while learning the sumi-e process!

Sumi-e (Zen Ink Painting) class at Lillstreet
2017.5.4: Sumi-e Painting at Lillstreet, Thursday, May 4th-June 1st, 2017 2-5 pm Experience the meditative practice of traditional Japanese ink painting, sumi-e, the art of painting using a brush (fude), ink (sumi) and thin, absorbent “rice-paper” (washi). Fundamental brushstrokes will be reviewed and insights into the “way of the brush” will be discussed, while you experiment with your original work. All levels welcome. Beginners receive hands on instruction, intermediate and advanced students receive individual assignments.
