In this In-Sync post, I have the opportunity to share my interview with Chicago-based artist Patricia Larkin Green. I have known Patricia for a few years. I was thrilled to visit the exhibition of her ongoing series of unmade beds at the President’s Gallery of Chicago State University. These paintings that relate to our intimate spaces capture our sense of humanity and often resemble a surreal landscape of hills and valleys.
Thanks to a group of artists* drawing together to preserve a Chicago Legacy-The Drawing Workshop was brought to the attention of Bruce Robbins, founder of Lillstreet and this valuable art institution was saved. After 40 years George Soto’s “The Drawing Workshop” will continue under Lillstreet after August. For more information email here: thedrawingworkshop@lillstreet.com
Founded by George Sotos over forty years ago at the landmarked Tree Studios building in Chicago, The Drawing Workshop is a large art studio (or atelier) at 4011 N. Ravenswood, Chicago, IL. It is near the Brown Line El stop at Montrose and the Metra station at Lawrence.
The Drawing Workshop is open to everyone. For a small studio/model fee, those who love drawing from life and learning a “visual vocabulary” may participate in weekly sessions. These sessions meet the needs of professional working artists and serious amateur artists who receive critiques and personalized instruction.

Thank you to everyone who attended the Art Talk last night Essanay Studios – Chicago, Illinois with@Patricia Larkin Green and Alderman Ameya Pawar: Government Office Meets Art Gallery. We hope to post photos and video once those artists send me the final edits! Patricia Larkin Green is currently working on a series named: I paint my unmade beds. Combining these paintings with her poetry is important to her. “This is how I reconcile my art spirit with corporate persona. A morning meditation over my body’s imprint on hotel linens, observing yesterday’s dreams filtered by a strange city’s dawning potential. A new daylight stretches across crushed pillows and twisted covers. Then: I suit up, paint my face and confront the business world. “
